Park City, Utah (December 15, 2022) – The winter competition season continues this weekend for USA Nordic, with athletes competing from December 15-18 across the world. Men’s and Women’s Ski Jumping will be attending the Engelberg World Cup, Ruka Continental Cup, as well as the Notodden Continental Cup and FIS Cup. Men’s and Women’s Nordic Combined will also be competing in the Ramsau World Cup.

Men’s Nordic Combined Preview
This will be Men’s Nordic Combined’s first World Cup competition since attending the Lillehammer World Cup from December 2-4. In Lillehammer, Ben Loomis was able to record a 34th place finish in the HS100/10km Event, along with a 43rd place finish in the HS140/10km event. Jared Shumate was able to add 43rd (HS100/10km) and 46th (HS140/10km) place finishes in Lillehammer. Jasper Good finished in 49th place during both events in Lillehammer. Ramsau will be the first FIS Nordic Combined World Cup event of the season for Grant Andrews. This summer, Andrews competed at the Oberwiesenthal and Tschagguns Summer Grand Prix competitions. In Oberwiesenthal, Andrews was able to record a 27th place finish in the HS105/10km Event, a new SGP personal best. He then ended his summer in Tschagguns, placing 41st and 28th in both HS108/10km Events.
The Ruka Continental Cup will be the first FIS Nordic Combined event of the winter season for Niklas Malacinski. Malacinski competed at the Oberwiesenthal Summer Grand Prix in August, placing 31st overall in the HS105/10km Event and 7th in the Mixed Team HS105/4x5km. This will be the first FIS Nordic Combined event of the winter season for Carter Brubaker as well, who is in his first season as a member of the Nordic Combined National Team. Last season, Brubaker competed on the Continental Cup circuit for USA Nordic, attending COC’s in Nizhny Tagil, Ruka and Lillehammer. Accompanying Malacinski and Brubaker will be Erik Lynch, who hails from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and is a member of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Last weekend, Lynch took 1st overall in the Senior Male class at the Winterstart U.S. Cup in Steamboat Springs.
Women’s Nordic Combined Preview
Annika Malacinski will be the sole Women’s Nordic Combined athlete from USA Nordic competing in the Ramsau World Cup this weekend. Last weekend, Malacinski competed in the Lillehammer Continental Cup, notching her first-ever COC podium, with a 3rd place finish in Saturday’s HS100/5km Event. Men’s Ski Jumping Preview
Decker Dean competed in the Titisee Neustadt World Cup last weekend for Men’s Ski Jumping. Dean was able to qualify for both Individual HS142 Events, but was unable to advance to the final round, carding 44th and 33rd place finishes. Erik Belshaw will make his World Cup debut this weekend in Engelberg, Switzerland, for Men’s Ski Jumping. Last weekend, Belshaw competed in his first event of the winter season at the Continental Cup in Vikersund, Norway. Belshaw was able to come away with 44th and 41st place finishes during both Individual HS117 Events. Andrew Urlaub also competed at the Vikersund COC last weekend, carding a 39th place finish in Sunday’s Individual HS117 Event. The Men’s Ski Jumping Vikersund COC recap can be found here.
Isak Nichols, Jason Colby, Maxim Glyvka and Tate Frantz are all members of the USA Nordic Junior National Team. This will be their first FIS Ski Jumping event of the winter competition season.
Women’s Ski Jumping Preview
Annika Belshaw and Paige Jones both competed in the Titisee Neustadt Women’s Ski Jumping World Cup last weekend. Competing in the Mixed Team HS142 Event with Decker Dean and Casey Larson, they were able to come away with a 9th place finish. Belshaw was able to qualify for the Individual HS142 Event, placing 33rd overall. The Women’s Ski Jumping Titisee Neustadt World Cup recap can be found here.
Anna Hoffmann, Cara Larson and Sam Macuga all competed in the Vikersund Women’s Ski Jumping Continental Cup last weekend. Hoffmann recorded 11th and 16th place finishes during the weekend’s Individual HS117 Events, with Macuga adding a 12th place finish, and Larson adding a 24th place finish during Saturday’s Individual HS117 Event. The Notodden Continental Cup will be the first FIS Ski Jumping event of the winter season for Josie Johnson, after she sustained a collarbone injury during a mountain biking accident earlier this fall. Prior to her injury, Johnson was having a very successful summer for Women’s Ski Jumping. In September, Johnson competed in the Lillehammer COC, notching 14th and 16th place finishes in both Individual HS98 Events. Johnson then ended her summer at the Lake Placid COC, as she earned 8th and 9th place finishes on the HS100, and capped things off with a 9th place finish in the Individual HS128 Event.
