Park City, Utah (January 4, 2022) – The World & Continental Cup season continues this weekend for USA Nordic, with athletes competing from January 5-8 across the world. Men’s and Women’s Nordic Combined will be attending the World Cups in Otepaa, Estonia. Women’s Ski Jumping will then compete at the World Cups in Sapporo, Japan, with Men’s Ski Jumping competing at Continental Cups in Planica, Slovenia.
USA Nordic’s U.S. Cup Series
USA Nordic’s U.S. Cup Series will continue this weekend from January 7-8 in Park City, Utah. The Park City U.S. Cup will officially take place on Saturday, January 7th, at Utah Olympic Park. The athletes will take the hill from 10:00am – 12:00pm MST, as they will compete in the U.S. Cup HS100 Event. The HS100 Event on January 7th will also be a Junior World Ski Championships qualifying competition. The day will then conclude with Nordic Combined races of 1, 2, 3, and 5km, with races starting at the bottom of the Large Hill at Utah Olympic Park from 3:00 – 4:15pm MST. The weekend will then wrap up with a Junior World Ski Championships qualifying competition on Sunday, January 8th. The day will start off at the Utah Olympic Park with a HS100 Event from 9:00 – 11:00am MST, and will end at Soldier Hollow with a 10km race from 1:00 – 1:30pm MST.

Men’s Nordic Combined Preview
Ben Loomis, Jared Shumate and Stephen Schumann will be representing Men’s Nordic Combined at the World Cups in Otepaa, Estonia, this weekend. Loomis, Shumate and Schumann last competed at the World Cups in Ramsau, Austria. Shumate was able to score his first World Cup points of the season, finishing 27th overall during the first HS98/10km Event of the weekend. Shumate then wrapped up his weekend with a 39th place finish during the final HS98/10km Competition of the weekend. Loomis carded 34th and 38th place finished during both HS98/10km World Cups in Ramsau. Schumann competed in the final HS98/10km of the weekend, placing 35th overall. Women’s Nordic Combined Preview
Annika Malacinski and Alexa Brabec will be representing Women’s Nordic Combined at the World Cups in Otepaa, Estonia. Prior to Otepaa, Annika Malacinski competed at the World Cups in Ramsau, Austria. During the weekend’s two HS98/5km Competitions, Malacinski carded 20th and 25th place finishes. The full Women’s Nordic Combined Ramsau World Cup recap can be found here. This will be Alexa Brabec’s first World Cup competition since the season opener in Lillehammer, Norway. In Lillehammer, Brabec was able to finish 25th and 27th overall during the weekend’s two HS100/5km Events, with the recap being found here.
Women’s Ski Jumping Preview
Prior to traveling to Sapporo, Japan, Annika Belshaw competed in the FIS Women’s Ski Jumping Silvester Tournament. At the first stop in Villach, Austria, Belshaw put together 35th and 37th place finishes in both HS98 World Cups. At the second stop in Ljubno, Slovenia, Belshaw finished 37th overall during the first HS94 World Cup. Belshaw then closed out the Silvester Tournament with a 26th place finish in the final HS94 World Cup of the weekend. The full Silvester Tournament recap can be found here.
The Sapporo World Cups will be the first competitions for Anna Hoffmann, Josie Johnson, Paige Jones and Sam Macuga, since competing at the Continental Cups in Notodden, Norway. In Notodden, Hoffmann carded two 12th place finishes during the weekend’s HS98 Competitions. Macuga was able to add 7th and 8th place finishes of her own, with Jones finishing 5th overall during the final HS98 Event. Notodden was Johnson’s first FIS Ski Jumping competition of the winter season, as she was able to finished 9th and 11th overall in the two HS98 Events. Men’s Ski Jumping Preview
In his most recent event, Casey Larson competed at the World Cups in Titisee Neustadt. During the Individual HS142 World Cups in Titisee Neustadt, Larson finished 54th overall in both qualification events. The full Titisee Neustadt World Cup recap can be found here. Andrew Urlaub most recently competed at Continental Cups in Ruka, Finland. During the weekend’s two Individual HS142 Event’s Urlaub notched 39th and 41st place finishes. The full Ruka COC recap can be found here. This weekend will be the Continental Cup debut for USA Nordic Junior National Team athlete, Tate Frantz. Frantz competed earlier this winter at the FIS Cup in Notodden, recording the highest finish of the day for USA Nordic athletes, placing 20th overall.
