Park City, Utah (January 8, 2024) – The World and Continental Cup circuit continues this weekend for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined athletes. For the World Cup circuit, Men’s Ski Jumping will compete in the “Polish Tour”, making stops in Wilsa, Szczyrk and Zakopane, spanning from January 12-21. Women’s Ski Jumping will compete in Zao, Japan, with both Men’s and Women’s Nordic Combined competing in Oberstdorf, Germany, from January 12-14. For the Continental Cup circuit, Men’s Ski Jumping will send athletes to compete in Innsbruck, Austria, and Men’s Nordic Combined will send athletes to compete in Trondheim, Norway.

Men’s Ski Jumping Preview
Andrew Urlaub, Erik Belshaw and Tate Frantz will represent the United States in the FIS Men’s Ski Jumping Polish Tour, which will make stops in Wilsa, Szczyrk and Zakopane. All three athletes recently competed in the FIS Ski Jumping Four Hills Tournament, as they jumped in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen, spanning from December 28th – January 6th. Belshaw’s highest finish during the Four Hills was in Oberstdorf, as he placed 31st overall in the HS137 World Cup. The highest finish for Frantz came in Innsbruck, where he finished 44th overall in the HS128 World Cup. Urlaub’s highest finish came at the final stop in the Four Hills Tournament, as he finished 46th overall in the HS142 World Cup in Bischofshofen. The full Four Hills recap can be found here.
Decker Dean and Kevin Bickner will then compete at the Continental Cup events in Innsbruck, Austria, for Men’s Ski Jumping. Both Dean and Bickner recently competed at the COC events in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, last weekend. Dean and Bickner’s highest finishes came on January 6th during the HS142 COC, as Dean placed 29th overall and Bickner placed 37th.
Women’s Ski Jumping Preview
Annika Belshaw, Josie Johnson, Paige Jones and Sam Macuga will represent Women’s Ski Jumping at the World Cup events in Sapporo, Japan. Belshaw, Jones and Macuga recently competed at the World Cup events in Villach, Austria. During the Individual HS98 on January 4th, Belshaw was able to score her first World Cup points of the season, placing 30th overall after putting together jumps of 81.5 and 79.5 meters for 198.7 total points. The highest finish for Jones came on January 3rd, as she placed 37th overall during the Individual HS98 World Cup, going 83.0 meter jump for 90.5 points in the first round. Macuga’s highest finish came during the HS98 Qualification on January 3rd, as she finished the day in 48th place after going 74.5 meters for 77.1 points. Johnson last competed in early December for Women’s Ski Jumping, placing 23rd and 25th overall at the HS98 Intercontinental Cup events in Lillehammer, Norway.
Men’s Nordic Combined Preview
Ben Loomis, Grant Andrews, Niklas Malacinski and Stephen Schumann will represent the United States at the Men’s Nordic Combined World Cup events in Oberstdorf, Germany. All four athletes last competed at the World Cup events in Ramsau, Austria, December 14-16. In the Mass Start HS98/10km World Cup on Friday, December 15th, Malacinski placed 19th overall (World Cup personal best), with Schumann coming in 23rd, Loomis coming in 33rd, and Andrews rounding things off in 38th (first-ever World Cup points). The final World Cup event of the weekend came on Saturday, December 16th, as athletes competed in the Compact HS98/7.5km event. Malacinski was able to finish 26th overall, with Schumann earning a 35th place, as Loomis placed 37th and followed by Andrews placed 50th. The full Ramsau World Cups recap can be found here.
Carter Brubaker, Skyler Amy, Erik Lynch and Gunnar Gilbertson will represent the United States at the Men’s Nordic Combined Continental Cup events in Trondheim, Norway. Brubaker last competed at the COC events in Lillehammer, Norway, with his highest finish coming during the HS98/10km COC on December 9th (42nd overall). Lynch last competed at the COC events in Lahti, Finland, with his highest finish coming during the HS142/10km COC on December 16th (23rd overall). Gilbertson last competed at the COC events in Lillehammer as well, with his highest finish coming during the HS98/10km COC on December 9th (52nd overall). The COC events in Trondheim will be the first international competitions for Skyler Amy of the 2023/2024 season.
Women’s Nordic Combined Preview
Annika Malacinski and Alexa Brabec will compete at the World Cup events in Oberstdorf, Germany, this weekend for Women’s Nordic Combined. Malacinski and Brabec last competed at the World Cup events in Ramsau, Austria, December 14-16. During HS98/5km World Cup on Friday, December 15th, Malacinski earned a 10th place finish, as she recorded a new World Cup personal best and her first-ever top-ten finish, with Brabec coming in 22nd. Competition concluded on Saturday, December 16th, as athletes participated in the Compact HS98/5km World Cup. Malacinski was then able to top her World Cup personal best, finishing 8th overall, with Brabec recording a new World Cup personal best of her own, placing 18th overall.
