Park City, Utah (January 11, 2023) – The World & Continental Cup season continues this weekend for USA Nordic, with athletes competing from January 12-15 across the world. Women’s Ski Jumping will compete in three World Cups this weekend in Zao, Japan, with Men’s Ski Jumping competing in two World Cups in Zakopane, Poland. Men’s Ski Jumping will also be attending a Continental Cup competition this weekend in Sapporo, Japan.
Along with the World and Continental Cups, nine USA Nordic athletes will be competing in Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined at the 2023 World University Games in Lake Placid, New York, from January 12-22. The World University Games is the largest winter multi-sport collegiate event in the world, with university students between the ages of 17 and 25 eligible to compete. Breaking News (via FIS): The Viessmann FIS Men’s Nordic Combined World Cup events in Klingenthal, Germany, scheduled for January 13-15, are postponed to 20-22 January, due to unfavorable weather conditions. The final decision will be made on Saturday, January 14th.

Women’s Ski Jumping Preview
Anna Hoffmann, Annika Belshaw, Josie Johnson, Sam Macuga and Paige Jones, will be representing Women’s Ski Jumping at the World Cups in Zao, Japan, after competing in Sapporo, Japan, last weekend. Jones was the sole Women’s Ski Jumping athlete to qualify for January 7th’s Individual HS137 World Cup, as she placed 32nd overall. Belshaw, Johnson and Jones were all then able to qualify for January 8th’s Individual HS137 World Cup. Belshaw placed 32nd overall, Jones followed in 37th, and Johnson was not permitted to start. Cara Larson and Ana Zigman will be competing for Women’s Ski Jumping at the 2023 World University Games in Lake Placid, New York. Larson, age 22, will be representing Salt Lake Community College at the World University Games. In her most recent FIS Ski Jumping competition, Larson placed 19th and 22nd overall at the two Continental Cups held in Notodden, Norway. Zigman, age 18, will be representing North Hennepin Community College at the World University Games.
Men’s Ski Jumping Preview
Andrew Urlaub, Casey Larson, Decker Dean and Erik Belshaw will be competing for Men’s Ski Jumping at this weekend’s World Cups in Zakopane, Poland. This will be Belshaw and Dean’s first FIS Ski Jumping World Cups since competing in the Four Hills Tournament. At the first stop during the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf, Germany, Belshaw was able to score his second World Cup points of the season with a 26th place finish. Dean also had a successful showing at the Four Hills Tournament, qualifying for each World Cup competition at all four stops. Click here to read the full Four Hills Tournament recap. Last weekend, Larson competed in two Men’s Ski Jumping Individual HS138 Continental Cups in Planica, Slovenia, where he was able to place 36th and 37th overall. After competing at the two Continental Cups in Planica, Slovenia, last weekend, Tate Frantz will be the sole USA Nordic athlete that will be competing at the Men’s Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Sapporo, Japan. Logan Gundry will be competing for Men’s Ski Jumping at the 2023 World University Games in Lake Placid, New York. Gundry, age 20, will be representing Chippewa Valley Technical College at the World University Games.
Men’s Nordic Combined Preview
A late addition to the USA Nordic 2023 World University Games roster, Niklas Malacinski will be competing for Men’s Nordic Combined at the World University Games. The 19-year-old Malacinski will represent Colorado Mountain College. Malacinski will be joined by fellow Men’s Nordic Combined National Team athlete, Evan Nichols. Nichols, age 19, will represent the Community College of Vermont. Along with Malacinski and Nichols, Timothy Ziegler, Henry Johnstone and Aidan Ripp will also compete for Men’s Nordic Combined at the World University Games. Ziegler (age 20) and Ripp (age 22) will represent Paul Smith’s College, with Johnstone (age 21) representing Williams college.
Women’s Nordic Combined Preview
Tess Arnone will be competing for Women’s Nordic Combined at the 2023 World University Games in Lake Placid, New York. Arnone, age 19, will be representing Colorado Mountain College at the World University Games. In her most recent FIS Women’s Nordic Combined competition, Arnone competed at the Tschagguns Summer Grand Prix. Arnone was able to place 18th and 19th overall during both of the HS108/5km Events in Tschagguns, Austria.
