Park City, Utah (December 8, 2022) – The World & Continental Cup season continues this weekend for USA Nordic, with athletes competing from December 9-11 across the world. Men’s and Women’s Ski Jumping will be attending the Titisee Neustadt World Cup, as well as the Vikersund Continental Cup. Women’s Nordic Combined will also be competing in the Lillehammer Continental Cup.
USA Nordic’s U.S. Cup Series
USA Nordic’s U.S. Cup series will also kick-off this weekend on December 10th in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with Winterstart. Hosted by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, this domestic event is for U16 & older athletes. Winterstart is the first on-snow event nationally for the 2022/23 season for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined. Approximately 60-70 athletes will participate in this event, which is held on the HS75 and HS100 meter jumps at Howelsen Hill. The event usually serves as the first U.S. Cup event of the season and a Junior World tryout.

Men’s Ski Jumping Preview
In their most recent World Cup event, Casey Larson and Decker Dean competed in Ruka, Finland. Both Larson and Dean were able to qualify for the HS142 Individual Competition, with Dean finishing in 36th and Larson finishing in 37th. The Men’s Ski Jumping Ruka World Cup Recap can be found here. Prior to competing in this weekend’s Continental Cup in Vikersund, Norway, Andrew Urlaub competed at the World Cup season opener in Wisla, Poland. Urlaub was unable to qualify for both HS134 Individual Competitions during the Wilsa World Cup.
After a successful summer, the Vikersund Continental Cup will be the first competition of the winter season for Erik Belshaw. Belshaw got his summer started on the COC circuit, finishing 26th overall in the HS115 Event at the COC in Stams, Austria. During USA Nordic National Championships in Lake Placid, New York, Belshaw placed 3rd overall in the HS100 Event, and 2nd overall in the HS128 Event. Belshaw then ended his summer at the Lake Placid COC, carding a 22nd place finish in the HS100 Event, along with a 14th and 20th place finish in the HS128 Events.
Women’s Ski Jumping Preview
Women’s Ski Jumping competed in their first World Cup of the winter season this past weekend in Lillehammer, Norway, with Annika Belshaw and Paige Jones recording new personal bests. Both Belshaw and Jones were able to qualify for the HS140 Individual Competition, with Belshaw placing 20th overall and Jones following in 29th. Anna Hoffmann and Sam Macuga also competed at the Lillehammer World Cup, as they barely missed qualification for both of the HS98 and HS140 Competitions.
The Vikersund COC will be Cara Larson’s first competition of the winter season, after competing at the Lillehammer and Lake Placid COC’s this summer. In Lillehammer, Larson was able to notch 23rd and 25th place finishes during both of the HS98 Events. Larson then ended her summer with in Lake Placid, as she was able to earn 10th and 12th place finishes in both HS100 Events, as well as an 11th place finish in the HS128 Competition.
Women’s Nordic Combined Preview
Annika Malacinski will be the sole Women’s Nordic Combined athlete from USA Nordic competing in the Lillehammer Continental Cup this weekend. Malacinski competed at the Women’s Nordic Combined World Cup season opener last weekend in Lillehammer, Norway, finishing 24th and 26th overall in both HS100/5km Events.
