Park City, Utah (January 19, 2023) – The World & Continental Cup season continues this weekend for USA Nordic, with athletes competing from January 20-22 across the world. Men’s Ski Jumping will compete in three World Cup events this weekend in Sapporo, Japan, as well as two Continental Cups in Eisenerz, Austria. Men’s Nordic Combined will then compete in two World Cups in Klingenthal, Germany.
USA Nordic’s U.S. Cup Series
USA Nordic’s U.S. Cup Series will continue this weekend from January 20-21 in Ishpeming, Michigan. The Ishpeming U.S. Cup will officially take place on Saturday, January 21st, at Ishpeming Ski Club. The Ishpeming Ski Club will be hosting their junior tournament competition (JNQA-Junior National Qualifier Alternate) for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined on January 21st, 2023. Young Ski Jumpers and Nordic Combined skiers from Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois will be competing on the K13, K25, K40 and K60 Ski Jumps. Men’s Ski Jumping Preview
Prior to traveling to Sapporo, Japan, Casey Larson and Decker Dean competed in two different World Cup events in Zakopane, Poland. On Saturday, January 14th, USA Nordic Men’s Ski Jumping athletes competed in the Team HS140 World Cup. The team consisting of Larson, Dean, Andrew Urlaub and Erik Belshaw, placed 7th overall. The final event of the weekend was an Individual HS140 World Cup on Sunday, January 15th. Larson carded a 36th place finish, putting together a 112.5 meter jump for 101.1 points in the first round. Andrew Urlaub is the sole Men’s Ski Jumping athlete that is set to compete at the Continental Cups in Eisenerz, Austria. Last weekend, in Zakopane, Poland, Urlaub competed in two different World Cup competitions. After finishing 7th overall in the Team HS140 World Cup, Urlaub recorded the highest finish of the day for Men’s Ski Jumping in the Individual HS140 World Cup. Men’s Nordic Combined Preview
Ben Loomis, Jared Shumate and Stephen Schumann last competed January 6-8 in Otepaa, Estonia, at three World Cup events. During the HS97/10km World Cup on January 8th, Shumate recorded a new World Cup personal best, placing 19th overall. Loomis also had a great day during the HS97/10km World Cup on January 8th, scoring his first World Cup points of the season, placing 24th overall. Schumann had a very competitive weekend in Otepaa as well, placing 33rd overall in the Mass Start HS97/10km World Cup, and 36th in the HS97/10km World Cup.
