Ruka, Finland (November 22, 2022) – Men’s Nordic Combined will kick-off the FIS World Cup circuit this weekend in Ruka, Finland. Men’s Ski Jumping will also be competing in Ruka, Finland, as they will attend their second World Cup of the season.

Men’s Nordic Combined – Ruka, Finland: Ben Loomis, Jared Shumate
Men’s Ski Jumping – Ruka, Finland: Casey Larson, Decker Dean
Casey Larson is coming off of a successful summer, competing in the Lillehammer Continental Cup, Stams Continental Cup, USA Nordic National Championships, and the Lake Placid Continental Cup. Larson started the summer with 25th (HS140) and 29th (HS140) place finishes at the Lillehammer COC. He then competed at the Stams COC, coming away with 17th (HS115) and 10th (HS115) place finishes. Larson then moved on to the 2022 USA Nordic National Championships in Lake Placid, as he earned the title of “National Champion”, in both the Normal and Large Hill Ski Jumping events. Finally, he recorded 16th (HS100), 19th (HS128) and 17th (HS128) place finishes at the Lake Placid COC, to close out summer competition.
Ben Loomis and Jared Shumate are also coming off of a great summer, as they competed in the Oberwiesenthal, Oberstdorf and Tschagguns Summer Grand Prix, along with USA Nordic National Championships.
At the Oberwiesenthal SGP, Shumate was able to finish 13th overall in the HS105/10km event, a new SGP personal best. Shumate then kept his momentum rolling into the Oberstdorf SGP, placing 29th overall in the HS137/10kn competition. Loomis earned his first SGP points of the season in Oberstdorf, as he finished 23rd overall in the HS137/10km event. For the SGP finale in Tschagguns, Loomis (12th) and Shumate (13th), were dominant during the first HS108/10km event of the weekend. During the final HS108/10km event in Tschagguns, Loomis carded an 18th place finish, with Shumate finishing in 38th. Shumate then closed out his summer at the 2022 USA Nordic National Championships in Lake Placid, coming away as the Men’s Nordic Combined National Champion after the HS100/10km event.
