USA NORDIC NAMES 18 ATHLETES TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS TEAM
Debut for women’s nordic combined in World Championships
PARK CITY, Utah (Feb. 19, 2021) – USA Nordic has named a team of 18 athletes to compete in the International Ski Federation’s upcoming FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany. Among the highlights will be the historic first time world championship in women’s nordic combined where American Tara Geraghty-Moats (West Fairlee, Vt.) will be among the favorites.
The World Championships are set for February 23 to March 7 in Oberstdorf. The event will be run under strict COVID-19 protocols, with no spectators. American fans will be able to follow live streaming on NBC’s Peacock TV network.
The event will also mark the first time women have competed on the large hill at the World Championships. Women’s ski jumping made its World Championship in 2009, but only on the normal hill. American Lindsey Van won the initial title, with teammate Sarah Hendrickson winning in 2013.
The team includes skiers from six different USA Nordic club programs from across the country, including 10 from the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Ten athletes will be making their World Championship debut, with nordic combined skier Taylor Fletcher (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) making his sixth World Championship team.
