Vierschanzen Tournee – the Four Hills Tournament – is ski jumping’s biggest week. From towering ski jumps at Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, on to the legendary hills at Innsbruck and Bischofshofen, Austria, ski jumping’s annual holiday tournament attracts the eyes of the sports world every year. Veteran media director Ingo Jensen takes us inside the legendary event with host Peter Graves.
The 69th edition of the prestigious ski jumping tournament gets underway in Oberstdorf, with qualifying Monday, Dec. 28 and competition rounds Tuesday, Dec. 29. It continues through to a finale at Bischofshofen, Austria, January 6 – where American Mike Holland won in 1989.
Ticket to Fly’s Peter Graves will take you inside the tournament with media director Ingo Jensen, a noted authority on the event and its history.
With Norway’s Halvor Egner Granerud having now won five straight World Cups, Austrian superstar Stefan Kraft coming back from COVID-19 and German ski flyer Karl Geiger fresh from a victory in the World Championships in Planica, who will be favored to win?
“Granerud’s the man owning the mountain right now.”
With few fans expected in the stands this year, listen as Jensen recreates that famous WHOOOOOOOOOOOAAAA sound you hear as jumper soar off the inrun and take flight?
“It’s an unwritten rule that the spectators say this. The jumpers have to remember that until his landing and then everybody is screaming and it’s it’s really, really unbelievable emotion and really great, great atmosphere.”
How has the Four Hills Tournament come to be so legendary in the sport? How many jumpers have won all four tournaments in a single year?
Prepare yourself for 10 days of ski jumping live on NBC’s Peacock TV beginning Jan. 28 and continuing through Jan. 6 with this look into the prestigious Four Hills Tournament with hosts Peter Graves and Tom Kelly
