I have a ton of photos. It’s hard to know which ones will catch people’s fancy, but this one speaks to me. These are East coaches, photo taken in 2019, at Lebanon, NH. As I poured through photos spanning the 8 years that my kid(s) have been jumping, there is a lot to reflect on. Mostly I see smiling faces. Smiles are truly pervasive. It is a trip down memory lane to see kids, who have come and gone and to remember the families we don’t see anymore. Some kids, aged in the single digits, who started in helmets that seemed far too big for their bodies are now Junior National Team members with ripped torsos and sleek suits. Others have chosen different hobbies to excel at, but I think we can be pretty sure that ski jumping will be something they always remember. Despite the flight of time, the coaches are there, year after year dedicating themselves to those children, their families, and the sport. It’s quite a show of love and dedication. I haven’t seen many coaches’ group photos, but it seems like something we might want to work at capturing.
