Park City, Utah (February 18, 2024) – Men’s Ski Jumping wrapped up the World Cup events in Sapporo, Japan, earlier today. Both Erik Belshaw and Tate Frantz were able to record individual World Cup points this weekend, with Belshaw scoring points during both days of competition.
Competition in Sapporo started off with a HS137 Qualification on Friday, February 16th, as Casey Larson, Erik Belshaw, Jason Colby and Tate Frantz took the hill. Belshaw qualified in 35th, after going 109.5 meters for 98.2 points. Colby then placed 47th, jumping to 104.0 meters for 86.0 points, as the 17-year-old qualified for his first-ever World Cup. Larson was right behind in 48th, putting together a 104.5 meter jump for 85.7 points. During the Individual HS137 World Cup on Saturday, February 17th, Belshaw was able to jump to 122.0 meters for 100.4 points in the first round, qualifying for the final round of competition. Larson ended his day in 47th (107.0 meters, 70.4 points), with Colby right behind in 48th (91.5 meters, 44.1 points). In the final round, Belshaw was able to go 116.5 meters for 103.2 points (203.6 total points), placing 26th overall for his third individual World Cup points of the season.
The final events of the weekend came on Sunday, February 18th, as athletes first took the hill for the HS137 Qualification. Belshaw qualified 29th overall, jumping to 125.5 meters for 106.9 points. Frantz followed in 39th (118.5 meters, 95.2 points), with Larson rounding things off in 42nd (119.0 meters, 91.7 points). Colby was just short of qualification, placing 52nd overall with a jump of 98.5 meters for 61.8 points. The athletes then took the hill again later in the day, competing in the final Individual HS137 World Cup of the weekend. In the first round, Belshaw went 118.5 meters for 98.2 points, with Frantz going 118.0 meters for 97.7 points, as both athletes were able to qualify for the final round. Larson ended his day in 41st place, after putting together a 111.0 meter jump for 80.6 points. Frantz was able to best his jump from the first round, going 122.5 meters for 104.9 points (202.6 total points), landing him in 23rd place and scoring his third individual World Cup points of the season. Belshaw was close behind, jumping to 116.0 meters for 94.5 points (192.7 total points), as he placed 27th overall, as both athletes ended their time in Sapporo.
