Zhangjiakou, China (February 11, 2022) – Qualifications for the second individual event in Men’s Ski Jumping at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 took place on Friday, as three USA Nordic athletes qualified for the final round in the Individual Large Hill competition.
The athletes Decker Dean, Casey Larson, and Kevin Bickner finished 38th, 43rd, and 45th respectively. Patrick Gasienica just missed advancing, as he placed 53rd.
“Today felt like a step in the right direction,” said Dean. “The Large Hill here is really nice and fun to compete on. Tomorrow, I’m going to try and improve on my results from today, and just jump far and have some fun. I’m really looking forward to representing Steamboat and fighting for a good result.”
“This was very similar situation to the Normal Hill, where my trainings were more relaxed than my qualification jump,” said Larson. “Thankfully, I was able to be in the top 50, which was my only job today. I know I can break off some longer jumps and have a lot more fun on this hill, that’s really my only challenge for tomorrow. I just want to have a great couple of competition jumps and prove that I can compete on the highest stage.”
Competition continues on Saturday, February 12th, as the Large Hill Final is set to take place at 5:00am EST. Check below to see how you can watch and support USA Nordic athletes as they continue to compete at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.
