Karin Bauer… after the moment it “clicked”. Read the smile.

karin@usanordic.orgAnyone who has ski jumped can probably tell you about that day when it clicked. It’s a feeling that’s hard to describe but, all of a sudden you’re through the in-run, off the take-off, and you’re flying farther than you have before.
It was the weekend of the annual Silvermine Tournament in 2006 and I’d been having a rough season so far. I was consistently jumping to the same 65-meter mark over and over, not being able to push past that spot on any jump. The trial round came on Saturday and all of a sudden, it clicked. I went 85.5 meters. I felt the patience over the knoll and finally caught the air that lingered past 70 meters. Coming through the transition and into the outrun, I couldn’t contain that feeling of pure joy. As you can see from one of the photos, my mom couldn’t contain that joy either!
These photos were taken right after that revelation on the ski jump.
Mom knew it, too! (Read the smile.)
It feels good when you get it right.
