From Scott Nichols, Evan’s father:
This is a story about athlete drive and ingenuity during difficult circumstances. Did you know the USA has some of its top Nordic Combined athletes in Finland skiing nearly completely unsupported? Here’s what happens. (All from Evan)
From Evan:
I wanted to wax my jump skis before PCR but we don’t have an iron and Norway is sharing theirs (Norway is providing some support to US athletes, but as you can see, it is minimal) with their special jumpers so the following videos/ pics are how I got my skis waxed and prepped for PCR. It turned out great!
STEP 1
First heat the wax and apply it to the ski.
STEP 2
Next, melt the wax into the base using only friction. It doesn’t work fully but it does get about half of it to melt in. One ski is melted the other not. After this picture I did another run through of the melted ski and it got even better.
The NC Continental Cup is tomorrow and Sunday in Ruka/Kuusamo. Evan and Eric Lynch are there on their own.
