CURATOR’S NOTE
It’s a small ski jumping/NC community across the country and smaller still in the Upper Valley of NH/VT, so when Dylan Cote’s 5th grade science project was shared with local jumpers, I was fortunate enough to be on the cc list and immediately knew it had to be shared. Working through his mother, Tara, I got the OK and a few more details:
From Tara McGovern, Dylan’s mother:
His 5th grade class recently studied cells, including the anatomy of animal and plant cells. To help the students remember the functions of the parts of the cell, his teacher (Amanda Burns) asked them to create analogies for each organelle. I asked Dylan why he chose ski jumping for all of his analogies, and he said, “I don’t know. Because it’s the sport I love.”
Overall, he’s counting down the days until Christmas and to the start of the winter jumping season. His goal this year is to jump the k65 in Salisbury.
I asked Dylan why he loves ski jumping so much, and he said “because it’s fun.” He also really loves the coaches and the other jumpers, who -regardless of their age- are all pretty nice and endlessly encouraging to one another. I think this makes ski jumping unique compared to most other sports.

Great Job Dylan. Keep up the good work in school as well as on the slope. I will get to see you someday very soon.
