Eastern Ladies Becoming Bigger and Stronger

Eastern Ladies is a social group that was created pre-Covid to empower female athletes here in the Eastern Division. We were losing a lot of girls as they felt it was a more male dominant sport and they didn’t have support. In stepped in with another mom. We created Eastern Ladies as a social group to give the girls the support they wanted and needed. Encouragement to try new things, put the sunglasses on for the people around them. The ladies still register and train with their local teams but have additional resources and support. Our club coaches have supported this initiative and been there when asked for assistance. This group has not only grown in size but also in offerings! We have been very fortunate to have fellow female ski jumpers donate their suits for our girls.
We all know girls are social and they need that. They also need confidence boosts and empowerment. You give them that and they fly like you wouldn’t believe. We have seen huge success here in the Eastern Division. Our number of female athletes is not only increasing but so too is our ability to provide additional resources.
This past season we had a winter “GIRLS ONLY” camp in Andover, New Hampshire (@Andoveroutingclub and @ProctorAcademy) and then this summer we had the “Ladies Only Lindsey Van Development Camp” in Lake Placid, New York (@NYSEF and @Lake Placid Olympic Jumping Complex). Plans for additional events this coming season and next summer are in the works!

It is fabulous that there is a program in the Eastern Division that is dedicated to promoting and advancing the sport of Ski Jumping for female athletes. While local clubs have great programs for Ski Jumping ladies, Ladies of Eastern Ski Jumping encourages ladies to travel to and meet up at other clubs for events as well as to see themselves skiing in Junior National events as well as progressing to Continental Cup and World Cup events. Cheryl Tourville has a great understanding and vision of what lady Ski Jumpers need to begin and continue their Ski Jumping careers as well as how to implement activities to meet their needs. Many congratulations to Chyrel and the Ladies of Eastern Ski Jumping for their many accomplishments… Fly long and pretty!
