Park City, Utah (February 7, 2024) – The 2024 FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships kicked-off earlier today in Planica, Slovenia. Women’s Ski Jumping competed in the Individual HS102 event, with Men’s and Women’s Nordic Combined competing in the Mixed Team HS102/4x5km event.
Women’s Ski Jumping
Josie Johnson, Sandra Sproch and Estella Hassrick represented the United States in the Individual HS102 event at the 2024 FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships. Sproch jumped to 85.0 meters for 91.1 points in the first round, ending her day in 33rd place. Hassrick then went 82.0 meters meters for 90.7 points, as she finished 35th overall. Johnson was able to advance to the final round, after putting together a 95.0 meter jump for 115.3 points. Johnson then finished 11th overall, after jumping to 95.5 meters for 116.6 points in the final round, giving her 231.9 total points. The 11th place finish is a new individual FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships personal best for Johnson.
Men’s & Women’s Nordic Combined
Men’s and Women’s Nordic Combined kicked-off the 2024 FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships with the Mixed Team HS102/4x5km event. Caleb Zuckerman, Skyler Amy, Alexa Brabec and Kai McKinnon competed for the United States. On the hill, the four athletes jumped to 9th overall (333.0 total points), which put them +2:07 behind first place for the start of the cross-country race. They were then able to ski up two positions, finishing the 7th overall in the 4x5km race with a total time of 42:30.2.
