Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Howelson Hill, 4th of July, 2018, HS75, A Jump Off happened today, a what? A Jump Off! In front of a record setting enthusiastic and knowledgable crowd, the elimination format Jumpin’-n-Jammin’ ski jumping competition had everybody there screamin’n-yellin’ for Team USA Nordic. RESULTS, Decker Dean jumped 73 meters to beat out Casey Larson’s 71.5 meters. That was, of course, after they had participated in round after round of sizzling elimination action under a sizzling summer sun. As the day progressed, the dedicated, young, local athletes of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, encouraged by the announcers and supported by the community, collected donations from the growing numbers of eager spectators. The donations collected right then and there served as the prize money the the big winner. The Steamboat fans raised the most money ever at a non-sanctioned, just for fun event like this one in Colorado, double what it was last year, a whopping $2,148.25, winner take all. Taylor Fletcher, out, Kevin Bickner, out, Jasper Good, out. With the music crankin’ in the background, the kids and kids-at-heart invited to play in the outrun sprinklers while they enjoyed free popsicles, the last planned round of elimination came down to, wait for it, a tie. We had ourselves a Jump Off. That Jump Off will not soon be forgotten by any body there this afternoon as it had the excitement of the coinciding World Cup Soccer match. In the end it was Decker Dean from USA Nordic who gained the deafening cheers from the crowd, gained the prize money and most importantly, gained the bragging rights of the 2018 Jumpin’-n-Jammin’ Comp.
